A Great Read for Anyone Serious About Retail

A Great Read for Anyone Serious About Retail

how-to-sell-recipes-in-retailMy best Christmas present this year was a book by John Hoerner called How to Sell - Recipes for Retail.

John became CEO of Debenhams towards the end of my time there, having moved from the US.  He went on to the Burton Group and subsequently Tesco to lead their fashion business.  I started reading his book on Christmas Day and finished it two days later.  I am now reading again slowly and making careful notes.

The book contains amazing advice on almost every aspect of retail based on John’s long career.  Most topics are only a page, but some go to three.  At over two hundred pages of high value retail content its worth its weight in Gold.  At £12.99 on Amazon, it is fantastic value.

We are in the process of finalising a new suite of e-learning classes on selling space optimisation, store and merchandise presentation, and visual merchandising.  I am reviewing every page to make sure we are capturing all of John’s related wisdom in this suite of classes.   If space productivity is an issue for you, look out for class releases between March and June this year.

And, if you are serious about building or expanding your retail knowledge, I can definitely recommend this book.  It is head and shoulders above many of the retail books I have bought in my career.
